Yesterday I read an excellent article written in 2016 by Amy Trappey (LinkedIn) and others at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan for Elsevier’s Advanced Engineering Informatics Journal [1].

The purpose of the paper was simple, to lay out the major standards and patents for Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure in existence in 2016. The information was laid out in a manner that maximized its utility value to future research projects that I am considering. I expect that incremental changes have been made in the evolving realm of IoT standards since the paper was written four years ago. However, it is sufficiently recent that the major components should still be intact and these changes can be traced in new editions of the standards or current patents.
