After returning from my trip to Boise, I decided to canvas the Pacific Northwest one more time for alternatives to Boise State. I wanted to put some solid options on the table for PhD programs in geophysics. I come across an opportunity at the University of Montana.

I submitted the application and started correspondence with the research advisor for the PhD position that culminated in a phone call with the person a couple days ago. The professor has been very helpful in enabling me to evaluate the strengths of this program. The track of research I would be pursuing at UMT is geodesy, surface mass loading, and seismology.

I very briefly drove through Missoula, MT a few years ago, and have explored the general region a couple of times since. I am certain I would thoroughly enjoy the outdoor opportunities available in this area. I believe my application will be welcomed and am now awaiting their decision and feedback.
